The next time you open one of those Carburetor overhaul kits,
take a moment and study your parts carefully, both those you
got, and those you're replacing. Once in a while, not often,
manufacturing flaws, packaging mistakes, and generally
quality control of all sorts fails, the result can be
frustrating, time consuming and costly.
In this first example, the accelerator circuit jet is the
culprit.
Under
normal circumstances, d epressing
the accelerator plunger will force fuel through the
spring-loaded valve in the top of the assembly,
then
through the orifice on the side, then the galleries in the
float bowl, past the two jets above the choke, and finally
into the venturi. Notice in the photo below the side orifice
on the left specimen. The right side specimen, fresh out of
the package, has not this hole. In effect, this
manufacturing defect has, if installed, effectively disarmed
your accelerator circuit. In cases of a carburetor rebuild
with no beneficial acceleration effect, this just may be
part of your problem.
This next
example is downright amusing. Sealed bag, part number 411
810 00 69 plainly visible, this should have been the little
chrome hood ornament for the UNIMOG. Factory quality
assurance obviously was out to lunch as this one went down
the line.It reached us in the same condition, flawless!
